Back for week two of ‘Weekly Yojijukugo” and this time we’re looking at
古今東西 – ここんとうざい
This week’s yojijukugo is made up of the characters:
古今ーここん – old and modern (now)
東西ーとうざい – east and west
The literal meaning of this compound is “from old to new and anywhere (from east to west).” So it means regardless of age/time and location.
古今東西の有名人の人形
Why would you have one of those? I don’t know, but it fits the meaning.
What do you think? Do you have any good examples that can use 古今東西? Let me know in the comments below!
